Dreamforce 2006 and Office 2.0 Conference

August 26, 2006

We are excited to be part of the upcoming Dreamforce Global Gathering organized by salesforce.com and the Office 2.0 Conference, both in San Francisco in October.

The Office 2.0 conference looks to be the event of the year to move the industry forward for a web based enterprise platform accessible to small, medium, and large companies. There is a goal to work together towards a great user experience for Office 2.0 services addressing the need for a common framework for on-demand applications interoperability, data exchange, use cases, user interface, single sign-on, etc. There is an objective to develop technical recommendations, demonstrate enterprise mash-ups for Office 2.0, define the vision, clarify the best use cases, and more.

The conference has CNET as a media sponsor (a ShareMethods customer) and Apple as well (I worked at Apple in the Advanced Technology Group for seven years…). The list of speakers and panelists for the Office 2.0 Conference looks great and currently includes:

Perspectives for On-Demand Documents, On-Demand Software and Office 2.0

August 21, 2006

This is a new blog providing perspectives for on-demand documents, on-demand software, and an emerging way of working online called Office 2.0.The blog is written from my perspective as the CEO of ShareMethods. ShareMethods provides an on-demand document management and collaboration service used by 135 companies around the world with users in 24 countries; customers include BusinessWeek, CNET Channel (a division of CNET Networks, Inc.), HID Global, Agile Software, salesforce.com, and many other small and medium sized companies.

I am writing because I am excited about the transformation taking place in the software industry, as more and more applications are available online, and as more and more documents can be created, managed, and shared online. The new wave of on-demand applications and document services are easy and fast to use, quick to deploy, and inexpensive. ShareMethods’ application services run entirely in a web browser and are offered as commercial subscription services via credit card payment or invoice. ShareMethods’ on-demand services are available in stand-alone format or integrated with salesforce.com via ShareNow for AppExchange (commercial subscription service) and ShareFree for AppExchange (free version for small businesses).

This blog will review topics in the emerging area of on-demand documents and Office 2.0, within the broader context of on-demand software; the content may be of potential interest to end-users, customers, developers, industry analysts, media, partners, etc.
